RE: campground costs

Washington State parks charge $19.00 per night for most non-serviced sites and $27.00 for serviced sites. From October 1 to March 31 a Senior Off Season Pass costs $50.00 and non-serviced sites are free and serviced sites are $7.00. We really get our moneys worth with our pass!
Have a great Thanksgiving!

RE: Diesel in cold temperatures

Just for the fun of it I will pick a nit with Tomcats post about winter diesel being a mix of kerosene and #2 diesel. Winter blend diesel is a blend of #1 and #2 diesel. Now the strange part - #1 diesel, Kerosene, Jet-A and stove oil all come out of the same storage tank from most refiners. Jet-A has the most strict specs for sulphur content so to reduce storage costs by having only one tank for all four they refine it all to the Jet-A spec and sell it as all four products. The only difference is the amount of tax charged on each and the dye they put in some of it.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

RE: catalytic heater install

I don't know about all of them but Mr Heater Buddy heaters are approved for use in inhabitated areas with proper ventilation. The requirement for our Buddy heater is a opening the equivelent of a 3" diameter hole. We crack a roof vent open a little to do that. I have it plumbed to the coach propane tank and have been using it for the past three years and we go year around here in the Northwest so it gets lots of use. One of the better things I have done. We are nearly always in non-serviced sites and the reduction in battery drain for the furnace is big and we hate the noise the furnace makes.

RE: pacbrake

Have you used the Pac brake special lubricant on it? It may just need to be lubricated.

RE: Tow Vehicle as Gen Set??

Its not a silly idea. It is a reasonable idea that simply has some technical challenges to make it work. If the issues I mentioned in a earlier post were addressed it would work just fine. It is not something a mechanically challenged person would want to try but I know with my background I could do it with no particular problems. If I could do it many others could as well. You just have to think outside the box.

RE: Tow Vehicle as Gen Set??

There is no reason you couldn't charge with your vehicle alternator. That is what it is built to do --- But ---- you would have to do several electrical and mechanical modifications to the vehicle to make it work.
First you would have to provide a high amperage switch of some kind that would allow you to select what battery was connected to the alternator for charging. As someone said the fully charged vehicle battery would hold the charge rate down to a very low output. Then you would have to install a hand throttle so you could set the engine speed for maximum alternator output. You would need a amp meter in the charge line to the RV so you knew how fast you needed the engine to run to get the alternator output you want. You would have to babysit the vehicle to keep the engine from overspeeding as the alternator power draw drops as the battery charge voltage comes up reducing the alternator output. It would probably take 6ga at least or maybe ever 4ga for the long run from the switch on the vehicle to the RV battery.
Asside from that it would work fine (-:

RE: external tranny cooler

Be sure and keep the stock cooler in the radiator in the circuit. In cold weather it is a transmission heater.

Gale mentioned deep cycle batteries. You do not want deep cycle batteries for chassis batteries.

RE: Dash Air Flow

You will most likely find the vacuum pump in one of your basement compartments near the front. Mine is in the compartment just behind the left front wheel. If you have access to the heater control vacuum cans that move the doors in the heater pull the hose off and see if there is any vacuum there. Move the controls and see if things move. You will need a helper to work the controls while you watch the linkage hopefully move when the controls are moved.

RE: Dash Air Flow

I second what Doug said. My dash air and heat system didn't work right and I found a too big hose on the vacuum reservoir nipple from the factory. My reservoir was a round black plastic ball looking thing mounted on the firewall near the heater components. The loose connection leaked and the vacuum actuators were not doing what they were supposed to do.

RE: Are there 12V/120 DIGITAL FLAT SCREEN TV'S

Oh, but I do understand. DW would wring my neck if "Her Programs" could not be available where ever we are camping.
All I was saying was that the difference between using a dedicated 12v powered TV and a 120v TV powered through a small inverter in current draw would be very little.

RE: Changing Out The Onan 4000 In A Winnie 29B

Having had a Honda EV4010 in out last class C I would not recommend one if you don't like noise. They actually turn a constant 3750 rpm not 3600 as someone posted and the cooling fans make a very annoying high pitched whine that will really get on your nerves.

RE: Way to tell if refrig recall has been done in a used rv?

A call to Dometic with the model and serial number will get you the answer. I bought a '86 class C in 2004 and was told about the recall. Called Dometic and it had not been done. They told me to take it to a RV service shop and they would fix it. They did. Mine was a three way and they did away with the 12v power option.

RE: Are there 12V/120 DIGITAL FLAT SCREEN TV'S

There is really no reason to buy a special 12v TV anymore. You can buy a 100w inverter that will plug into your power socket for $20.00 that will run any but the biggest TV. I power a 22" Viseo LCD TV and a Direct TV receiver with a 100w inverter. Works fine. Total draw 74w.
